Seems like a good intention, just terribly implemented. I've been wondering if I can really justify my second account; I seem to be the perfect target market but seriously, a single 3 day block every month? That's useless. Make it a weekend-only account; or 48-hour total playtime; or frankly just about *any* scheme other than what they've come up with. Also interesting - they emailed this offer to my primary account, but not my secondary (both are fully paid up and active) - so I don't even really understand who they're trying to sell this to. Have to confess, I'm seriously considering checking out the competition anyway, and this kind of ass-backward marketing stunt, along with recruiting a new producer who doesn't play the damn game, doesn't exactly change my mind.

How much is $15 a month, really? Is $5 much easier to swallow? I don't see the value to be honest.

I wonder if they are going to soon have an expired account character purge and this is their way to make money off people that are sitting on hibernated accounts always knowing their character will be there when they come back (or maybe not soon).

Maybe they just need to offer something like a $1/day plan - that would seem to fit much better with the market they *say* they're going for...

That is as confusing as hell - I honestly don't get it. $5 for 3 days?
I guess I am missing the rationale where this is viable - I need a description of the player whom this will help.
If this is the first brushstroke of EQ2's new producer we are in trouble.

That would be devious, but one thing they have been pretty clear about on the forums is that there are no plans to purge characters, so I'm really not expecting that they've changed their mind on this. Neither does this sound like its been added by the new producer, from his early interview it sounds like he has not made any changes at all (he just says for the short term he's making sure that the current plans are done on time). It makes sense that this offer isn't any use to current multi-boxers, unless people were shutting down accounts its not in SOE's interest to lower prices, I'm guessing that their marketing have identified this as a price that bridges the gap between 1 to 2 accounts. An discount for multiple accounts though could go down well, or even just some sort of free station cash would be cool. No plans to use it myself though, too much to do with just one account...

Theodoric wrote:I guess I am missing the rationale where this is viable - I need a description of the player whom this will help. You have 2 accounts. 1 you play all the time. Another account you have just sitting around and you don't pay. On the second account you have a level 90 warden with very good gear. Once a month the main healer in your guild has to do guard duty and he can't play his warden. For that weekend you pay the $5 for your second account so you can raid with your warden. _____ A guy used to duo with his wife. She stops playing but he keeps playing doing mostly solo stuff. He gets to a part in the questline where he can't get past - he pays the $5 for his wife's account for the weekend so he can finish up the questline. _____ You have a second account on one of the exchange servers that you don' play. You pay $5 so you can log in and list your toons and plat on the auction. _____ You have an old account that you're not using. A friend is hanging out with you and you're trying to get him to play EQ2. You say, 'I'll reactivate my account - it only costs me $5 - and I'll let you play it for the weekend. If you like it you get your own account and I'll help you level. _____ You used to play a second account that focused mainly on crafting but you let the sub expire. You're thinking about doing some crafting to get some gear for your lower level toons on your main account. You activate your second account for the weekend and craft new gear for your alts. Etc.

All reasonable examples - but I can't help feeling that in most of those cases, you're going to say "hmm, or for $10 I could activate it for a whole month, so I can still help if our healer is on guard duty next weekend / get through *all* these quests I have stacked / let my friend see what it's like for a whole month / etc... It's simply - and, I think, deliberately - unattractive in most circumstances.

I see the validity of those examples but fail to see where in any it makes $5 for 3 days worth while - that is just dirty. $1 for 24 hour running clock is far more reasonable.
