Ok, I am up for my new every two deal for a new phone with Verizon. I am looking for a phone that can do internet and email. Anyone have one of the smart phones from verizon? Choices are pretty much between a Blackberry, Motorola Q Black, Treo, or Samsung SCH-i760. I have zero experience with the blackberry type phones, so any input would be helpful.

Now...I have AT&T, but I bought an iphone (LOVE IT) but my wife bought a BB Curve. The problem is that you can't buy a Curve because you have Verizon, and i think your only choice is the 8810. While that phone is awesome, it doesn't have a Camera...and it's way businessy. however..Blackberrys do email better than any other phone out there (that's what I've been told....) I know that my iphone does an ok job with email but her Curve blows it away, and it has the same Google maps (not as good looking as my iphone...but nothing really is) and the Opera Mini browser does the web pretty well. However, if you ever consider using a SlingBox you are gonna need to go with the Treo or the Q (I don't know about the Samsung). I've messed around with my friends Treo, and it's pretty nice. You need the EVDO for Sling media...however if that's not important to you..then completely up to you.

have you thought about the new phones from HTC or LG? The LG Explorer is pretty cool looking, and it opens up sideways ala the LG NV...

Another of my friends bought a HTC 8525 for ATT and loves it....and I think HTC makes a good Mobile6 phone for Verizon.

Just my thoughts...

Or you could get an iphone.....ATT isn't as evil as people say... I dunno how your coverage is down there tho. Everyone in Ohio I know with Verizon have bad reception (they are always kinda staticy....while I on my iphone talking to my wife on her Curve are clearer than Landline)

I have heard people say the iphone isn't really that great being a first generation. Have you not had and problems with it?

Does the iphone have a plug in the bottom of it like a normal ipod? I have a car adapter in my car that hooks it into my stereo without using an FM modulator.

Have you considered holding off to see what Google has up it's sleeve in the next week or so. Rumors are it's something with either Sprint or Verizon. Could be worth the wait to at least see what's up.

I don't think Google's will be an actuall phone per se, but an announcement of an OS specifically for a phone. The retailers will be able to offer the OS in the open (ie Google doesn't make the phone or put it on a specific carrier), but we will have to see what the Nov announcement is :)

I have had a lot of people tell me to get the blackberry pearl, the new one that hasn't come out yet. I am in no hurry to buy the phone, maybe December...But just wanted to start looking at it. Anyone have an opinion on the pearl?

I'll let you BBQ me if I'm wrong..... But I have this funny feeling that Sprint has something up with Google. Oh... I won't say anything a Chinese Manufacturer thats....well I just have a hunch it's Sprint.

All I know is Sprint's trading at a 52 week low at the moment and just recorded a huge 3rd quarter loss. I hope my money pays off.

I've had absolutely no problems at all with my iphone....

however...I haven't jailbraked it or anything...but still, I'm happy as can be with it.

it has the exact same connector at the bottom as my 5G ipod video. My wife has a Griffin FM adapter for her car and her 5.5G ipod. My phone works fine with it. The only thing is that when you use it, you need to put the phone in airplane mode because the GSM radio signal makes the radio go all nutty. That is a mixed thing, because the iphone knows what you are plugging it into, so it asks if you want to enter airplane mode, but you aren't able to receive or make calls while in that mode either.

If you aren't worried about taking or making calls while driving, it's not a huge deal....but for long trips it isn't ideal. I'll use it occasionally... but only when I forget my 5G

My wife was really thinking of a Pearl, but the Curve is just barely bigger, has a much better screen, and has a full QWERTY keyboard, instead of 2 letters per key. We both felt the Pearl just wasn't all that nice. Also the new Pearl 8130 really isn't any different than the normal Pearl for ATT & TMobile, but it does support EVDO.

I agree with Cyan here, plus a LOT of gadget blogs support this line of thinking...Google is prolly marketing a linux-based phone OS to HTC, Pantech and other manufacturers as a decent rival to Windows Mobile and Symbian

update...

I jailbreak'd my iphone...and it is AWESOME!!!!!

it now absolutely OWNS every other phone in existence....

I paused mario brothers on my NES emulator to post this....

sooo.......if you think of making the jump...i can't think of a good reason not to consider an iphone. If you absolutely want to stay with Verizon...I can understand that too

There seems to be conflicting reports about Google's entry into the cell market. Some are saying they will have their own hardware even.

Google is supposed to announce something today...so something should be on Digg within a couple hours I'd think

What we do know:

ANDROID! with conflicting reports. One article I read says 4 carriers, one says 33 handset makers.

Signed a 5 year deal with this joker: with 3.5B being dumped into them

Good low stock price, would be nice to follow these guys.

Looks like noon PST.

Verizon/Tmobile. The interesting thing is that since it is an OS I wonder if the carriers will pick and choose specific phones for it to be on (AND NOT TO BE ON).

The more and more I think about it it isn't really Cingular/Apple that will be hurt majorly by this, but will more than likely be Palm and MS (Windows Mobile).

It really just depends if they can get developers hooked on it.

Here's some of the transcript in case you want to follow along with the formal call:

I just read that transcript and I gotta agree with Cyan here...it looks like this is aimed squarely at Windows Mobile and Palm....

But I honestly don't think it's going to hurt RIM too much...and Windows Mobile also will be ok on the business side.

I think Android will probably suffer from the same business oriented limitations as the iphone....BUT....who knows...(i sure don't)

The one thing that annoys me about the call is that there is so little information in it...most of the 500 lines of text is one company after the next blowing it's own ....um horn...

Where are the details?!!!

I guess a hardware version maybe on down the road some.

Interesting call though.

he might have just hit his 4 years vest period and is cashing out as soon as possible (so he can quit and move on).

Google is probably having an insane brain-drain right now. I know if I was in at the beginning I would have cashed out as soon as I hit vest and then took a long vacation on some island I might buy :)
