Anytime they want? Is it the people who play these games fault and should have upgraded these by now?

Crikey, in my PC games collection I do not own a game that was originally released after any of those on the list, although many have had updates/expansions.
To me that sounds like they are cutting support way too fast, I'd expect myself online servers to be supported for a minimum of 5 years from the release date of the game. I know some console gamers really do churn through games at a fast pace, but has the support for these games really dropped off that bad? If not I'd expect this to go down badly for EA's reputation, maybe if there is a backlash it could result in games being sold with some sort of minimum time support guarantee?
Games like DoD:Source and IL-2 Sturmovik (released 2001, last patch was Nov 2009) are still going online PC wise.

I can see shutting down the 07 and 08 games but anything in 09 should be kept running.
