Now what would be really interesting would be to see an equivalent diagram for SOE. The big surprise with WoW was the cinematics group Quote:The cinematics group was the next to be pointed out by Pearce. Machinima sequences, teasers, and the amazing pre-rendered cinemas that make Blizzard games kick off with a flash are all created in this group. As a talented group of artists, they also use this group to direct the creation of sword replicas, statues, and other physical objects. The group is 123 people strong, and Pearce notes that they could actually spend a whole talk just talking about how cinematics is organized. That's mind blowing, 123 people, there are more people involved there then the programmers (32), game designers (37) and graphics artists (51) combined!

The funny thing is that there is always a badass animation for each expansion, but I don't remember too many cinematics in the game itself. I did only get to around lvl 30ish though, so maybe more towards the end.

I played 2 characters all the way to level 80 and a couple near the end and there is only one cinematic in game that I remember which is the wrathgate questline (its got its own achievement for reaching it etc so stands out a lot), there are cinematics too though for some of the major patches. I wonder though if term cinematic includes end of boss fights where an NPC walks in and gives a talk, I still don't see enough of them to justify the numbers though. One other thing, WoW in China is finally back online, I'd like to know how many servers they have there since Netease are reporting that their WOW operation was costing $146,000 dollars a day to keep running.
