Vivox are launching a new service where people can log in and actually talk with people in a PuG while playing WoW (the build in voice is useless), its run all via a web browser outside of the game.
Puggable websiteThe development illustrates for me how just the huge size of WoW is giving it effectively free development time from other companies, but it doesn't gel well with Blizzards stance that no one else can monetise their game for me. They've issued cease and desist notices to web comics before that have just had an advert bar running, or for people selling upgraded versions of add-ons. This service has to pay for itself somehow, I'm guessing advertisements to start things off maybe with a paid option to follow if it gains a big enough audience?
The web screen does also show the current state of the game though, you have links to tell you how to do the instance, what the instance drops, video's of how to do it, if the players in the party have done it before, gear levels and exact specs.
In short its a min-maxers dream.
Along with the service there is also another more promising from a money point of view one for facebook called Vivox Web Voice.
