Fresh from SOE Free Realms is live, but it has no Frogloks that I can see. They make it 100% clear that the game is for kids and sounds like a completely shallow and nauseating world to me at first glance ;) (can't help commenting even though I know its not for older players). We'll have to see how it hits the target audience, specifically I'm wondering if they are appealing more to parents then kids although with SOE's experience they know how to put an addictive game in there, Johnny ball will reveal all. But the good news is now that they have this launched there is the possibility they could start focussing on something interesting, EQ3 I wonder....

I thought it was still in Beta... I thought the game was OK, but not for me. Too many Nickle and Dime shit that adds up if I got into it. One of the main reasons I play EQ2 still is because the monthly fee is cheaper 1/2 A night out.

For me any real money game would suffer from that problem, in some ways progression is a main draw of a MMO, but if the nights progress involves depleting the wallet it doesn't sound very satisfying. I'm kind of hoping that the future does not turn into all of this sort of stuff since at that point I'd just limit myself to 1 player strategies (enjoying sins of a solar empire right now) and forget the MMO scene. One interesting twist to it though, I wonder how successful a game would be like if they charge a fee and you had real money that you could earn back in the game? I know Eve kind of does something similar where people can buy play time with in game currency, it sounds a very compulsive method to keep people playing in a genre that is very addictive to start with though, one reason I've steered well clear of Eve.

I didn't think the beta was too bad - I liked how easy it was to dip in and out of. I need to explore it more now it's live to see just what is and isn't available for free...

I am pretty much loving the Free Realms... I am amazed at how much you can do for Free, and I am pretty impressed that the game can run so well on crappier hardware.
I think it will take a little while for the crowds to catch up with FR, but when they do it will surge in popularity.

Quoted from the forums:
"I can confirm the game is 1.7GB"
Might be a little too much for me to DL at home. Will check into that though.

The name has changed but the model is the same. Players deposit real money to buy items. If you profit you can withdraw the money. It is just the simple. No subscription fees and the game is free to download.

I can't tell you how much fun this is. The mini games that kinda just appear out of nowhere...the tons of quests, really had a great time tonight playing it. ALOT better than I thought it was going to be. You get a little sense of SOE trying to make a dollar around every corner, but really really good game. I am totally surprised.
