I have really been digging EQ2 TSO stuff prior to Christmas - got my coercer to lvl 73, ranger questing TSO - part of a huge casual guild that had a core of high levels with raid aspirations. Was cool for me as my ranger will never find a great, established raid guild - not many guilds looking for rangers :) Just as we get started some drama and many of those needed for the raiding bail. Add to that the fact that with Christmas break and a new HDTV I had a couple week break from game and I found I was not motivated to log back in - I get this cycle every 6 months or so. So still gonna play eq2 but thinking of revisiting AoC as the timing is good. AoC rolls out today with server merges which should help the game tremendously. All prior US pvp servers are now Tyranny while PvE are Set and Wiccana. AoC official forumsAlso there are now two new servers - Agony PvP and Ironspire PvE. I am intrigued by starting in a fresh world - so i may go to Agony. If anyone wants to join me tonight it may be fun - pvp on new launches are usually hectic fun :) I hope to find at least one person to duo the game with to make it more enjoyable and to make for a really good pvp team. Hope to see someone in Hyboria tonight! Theo

Count me in. I've been following AOC from the ouside over the last few months and they seem to have come a long way with the game. The chance to start on a fresh server with new players who haven't benefited from all the exploits and general BS that plagued the game in the beginning will be refreshing. They have added the PVP system, lots of new group content, PVP gear and have done a good bit of work on itemization as well. Supposedly, stability and bugs are both much better and they have a new game director in place who is the same guy that turned around Anarchy Online. They also modified the combat system to make it a bit less "button mashy" which in reality just made melee classes have less buttons to hit to execute combo attacks.
I think the server mergers will do wonders for the game as will opening up new servers. There seem to be lots of folks disenchanted with War or whatever their current MMO is who are looking to try something new. For many, that answer lies in LOTRO but I'm just not feeling that game.
Theo, I'm thinking about going with a POM on the new server but I'm pretty flexible. I could also do a TOS. What are you thinking class wise?

I actually logged into AoC the other night to check things out. Rolled a ToS, but I still have my 80 sin -- all on Tyrrany (originally deathwhisper).

I was in AOC at release. It was ok, but so buggy I couldn't stay there. The gear table was absolutely tore up all to hell and the risk vs reward of regular gameplay was out of whack. Ultimately, just wasn't ready for release when it went live. My expensive AOC giftbox still sits on a shelf in my office at home, and I've thought about picking it up again and seeing how things are, but I just picked up Warhammer and will play through that a while and see where it takes me before I attempt AOC again.
I wish AOC had been crisp and cleaner at release, I was really exciting about playing it.

It has potential and still does, I hope it wasn't "branded" to badly as being a failure, I seem to see that a lot on other non MMO specific gaming sites. It and Vanguard are still AAA titles that just released too early (and may have got the systems right, just not the game itself).

That's funny you say that, because I had wrote in "It's tough to see that AOC has just become another case study and statistic of how NOT to release a game" , but I thought that might be a little too harsh and AoC still has the ability to clean up its image and redirect that viewpoint.
