DC Universe Online Interview - Interview by Christian DonlanThis is a really good interview, but I really liked the answer to this question:
Quote:Eurogamer: SOE seems to keep titles that are under-performing live a lot longer than other companies. Is that a conscious strategy?
John Blakely: It's a business decision. We look at what's going on and say, "Hey, look, there are audiences for content." Some of those audiences are going to be bigger than others and some of them are going to carry others, but as long as the audience is there and the product is there, it takes so long to create these products, we may as well continue to serve that audience.
Even the smallest games have a microcosm/community of hardcore players. I like the fact that SOE understands that these exist and do as much as possible to keep these games going (even keep some alive by purchase ie VG), where as a large company that just does a one off MMO probably doesn't mind killing all the servers and chalking the game up as a loss (leaving that community high and dry). I think even SOE's detractors have to give them credit for sticking with a game and improving it slowly but incrementally. Not saying DC Universe is bound for that type of release, I just thought that one question from the interview was interesting.
