I started some EQ1 over the weekend on an old account I used to have active. I turned all the settings on as high as they would go and it's really not too unbearable. I started a new character and am going to attempt to play on through it to see if I can tolerate it again. Come join me, I'm only currently level 8 Magician:

EQ1 eh? What made you want to try that again? To me, its Vanguard with uglier graphics but I did have a blast playing it back in the day. That being said, I put EQ2 and EQ1 back on my machine this morning and reactivated my station pass. I'm not sure if that will qualify me for all the living legacy rewards - hopefully it does. The accounts for both EQ2 and EQ1 were closed for months and I only had Vanguard going subscription wise. We will see tonight I guess once those games get done patching.
I'm willing to roll a char in EQ1 with you just to check it out for the next few weeks. How is the server population? Do you think they have more players running around than Vanguard? I also have a pvp char and a pve character going in Vanguard who are both coming up on level 10. I'm having fun in that game so really at this point I'm pretty wide open.

Laz, I saw a couple of your corpses in the newb zone over the weekend. I assume you're giving it a try, and I assume you like to die alot!! lol Nonetheless, rolled a new char (Barbarian Warrior) and have been playing him as my main (if you can call it that). Currently Level 19 and only leveling in the hot zones. The hot zone exp is stupid rediculous. Enjoying things so far. Still a little lost and trying to grasp those EQ1 roots.

I switched to the Stromm server as I heard it was the newest and most active in the leveling ranges of all the severs. I logged into an old station account that had EQ to find that SOE gave me all the expansions and a bunch of reward living legacy items. I put EQ on my laptop and last night did the tutorial 1-9 so far on a dual box with a mage / cleric combo. I had so much fun playing EQ again.
I'm going to see how it goes, basically deciding between EQ1 and VG at the moment. I don't know what it is but playing EQ I get that feeling that I just don't want to turn the game off. It has some quality about it that makes me want to keep playing which is something I don't have anymore for AOC, WOW and EQ2. I've had flashes of that feeling in VG but my 14 psionicist seems to be in a rut at the moment. Anyways, if anyone wants to play some classic EQ and was a former subscriber you should give it a shot in the next few days. Look me up on Stromm as either Lazaretto or Tybee and both characters are level 9. I've got room in my static group - lol. In Vanguard, I'm on the Xeth server as Lazaretto and am currently a level 14 psionicist.

Funny, I actually have a few characters on Stromm as my second go around in EQ1 that was my server. I may patch the game - it is already on my machine.

Waddup,
I hit around 28 last night. I've only been leveling in the HOT ZONES and the exp is fast, but the downtime....well it's slow as shit. I should have 2-boxed.
I am a Warrior and I went to the bazaar and bought potions of skinspikes and that's a "MUST HAVE" to mow down everything.
I'm also having a blast. The community is very lacking and I haven't had a group yet, but met a couple of people and am having fun in it.
1-10 Newbie Zone 10-20 North Ro 20-23ish South Ro 25-28+ Sol Eye
And currently in Bloodmoor
I'm having alot of fun right now. I only kick myself to that fact that I wish I was 2 boxing, it would probably be a little more enjoyable. Being a tank is a slow lonely life out there.

Have about 10 min left of patching, I don't even remember my characters - should be plenty of cash and toons though on Stromm. I may two box myself - I have never done it but my previous toons are on an old account, I may give it a shot just for the heck of it.

It would be fun to have a static EQ group - something like we could get together one or two nights a week and just take it easy. Maybe, bring back some old memories.

Theo and I are going to spearhead a drive to work our way up and at least get our Epic 1.0s on the Luclin (Veeshan) server. We are both at level 10 (or very close to it) and getting ready to head out to the first hot zone outside the tutorial area tonight. There is a guild out there called "Nostalgia the Guild" that we are looking to hook up with once we leave the tutorial. These guys are run by Tip from the westkarana blog and they have Tuesday/Friday night guild events and they are playing through their favorite old school EQ1 content with new characters on a casual basis.
I figure we can catch up to their main force in a few weeks or less and then just play casually enjoying hanging out with each other and seeing some fun sights. Again, if anyone wants to join us conisder this another open invitation. Leveling in EQ1 is insanely fast these days (ask Dardore) and I love group content and dungeon crawls vs. mindless solo questing. It takes a while to get used to the UI but once you get it, it's not too bad. You can crank up the graphics to max and even my laptop plays the game well! At the moment, I'm playing a cleric (Lazaretto) and Theo is a beastlord. I think Leko just started a necro.
Tomorrow (7/25) is supposedly the last day to qualify for the free expansions and living legacy rewards - free mount, bags, armor etc... so you may want to either start a new trial account and register it (giving you all the expansions and items for free) or work it out so you can get them through your regular SOE subscription. If you have problems, customer service will give you the items and expansions probably with just a phone call.
Anyways, I plan on playing most nights from say 9:30 EST to 12:30EST until I get caught up level wise. Hope to see you in game!

Yes, leveling is extremely fast so far for me in the HOT zones. I'm only casually playing and have already hit 44 in a very short time. I even stopped and went and farmed some Sand Giants in S Ro to make a little money. Only downside I am having so far is the lack of funds. All the items are so inflated in cost. It's tough to keep up with. And the lack of experience in the items and what is good and what is not, is a little difficult right now. But asking around and getting people's opinions on my inventory is helping, and I even have been offered a couple of items from some others.
I agree, the UI is actually pretty good once you get accustomed to the settings, the layout, and also understand this is a dated game. But turning up the graphics all the way up, I really enjoy it. And it's significantly better than it used to be. I get the feeling that people playing this game are much more mature than your traditional MMORPG gamer. Most are very kind and helpful. There are no Chuck Norris jokes and not much complaining or rants in the channels. Everyone just seems to be doing their thing, hanging out with their friends, and taking it easy. The Guild Lobby is always packed of people, and you can normally find any buff known to man there. Most are willing to understand if you are new and to the game and will buff you for free, or understand you are light on funds and help you out.
The grouping, when I've made myself available, has actually been pretty easy to find. The Hot Zones are obviously hunting alot more than some of the older zones, but I have not had a problem at all finding a group when I wanted to. I was a little surprised by that.
Now... 7/25/08 ends the Living Legacy promotion. I've got about a day to determine if I will again pay for a SOE game or if I will move back into the abyss searching for that other game. I still have not made that decision yet. But I will tell you, I've had a great time playing so far, and I could see myself continuing to stay interested in the game.

Living Legacy promotion in EQ1 ended over the weekend, and I was going to sign up for continiued service....but then realized it was a day late. So that meant I got left out of all the freebie promotional stuff and I only ended up having like 1/2 of all the expansions, where I could have had them all if I had signed up a day ealier. Going to talk with customer service sometime today to see it they'll let me slide and give me all the expansions and let me sign up. If not, not sure I'll be playing.
Glad some of you guys are enjoying it, keep with it. Will probably roll on your server if I can get that expansion upgrade. I hit a little wall at 44 trying to find groups for Dulak Harbor, etc... But was having a blast up until then. I'd continue playing, I only hope CS will hook me up.
I'll let you guys know how that conversation went. I'm a pretty good negotiator.

I read that if you had your account turned on during living legacy, you will be entitled to all of the expansions if you ever reactivate the account. In other words, you don't have to reactivate during the promotion. You should be able to turn your account back on and get all the expansions without any fuss. I'd love to play with ya on Luclin (Veeshan.) I joined "Nostalgia the Guild" and they are lots of fun. The are currently locking at 52ish doing Vox and Nagafen and working on Epic 1.0s. These are the type of people who will help all their members get their 1.0 epics. I'm still dual boxing in Moors and have a mage/cleric in the 25-27 range currently.

**Warning** EARMUFFS WARNING **Warning**
Tried to talk with CS and still have not heard back from them, not even an e-mail. Good ole' reliable SOE customer service. Well, hope you guys are having a blast still.
Just goddamn sad that they hire people that work like this and they are fine with it. Is there not a manager, oversear, or a supervisor that keeps tags on his employees. Just sad....and pisses me off.
I should be running the world.....screw survival of the fittest, I'd make it survival of the common fucking sense

Hopefully some of the SOE people who still read this board can maybe pick up a phone and get someone to help you. They can always PM you to get your details.

Coding, 360 and a certain beta have been occupying my time. I don't know if I have time for more than 1 MMO right now.
