So I'm thinking about going against my better judgement and upgrading to Vista / DX10. Which version should I get? Should I go up to 4 gigs of RAM? Currently I have a E6700 Core 2 Duo, 8800 Ultra, and 2 Gigs of RAM. Will this setup work decently with Vista? Should I go 64 bit or 32 bit? Any suggestions / tips?

You know I've read a lot of conflicting reports on whether to go with 64 bit or not. However if you don't go with 64 bit I think the system will only recognize 3 Gigs of RAM...I have a feeling that eventually we will all have to go to 64 bit. I was thinking about going with Vista when I built a new system about 6 months ago, but decided against it. I'm still upset that an upgrade to Vista basically means a 50% reduction in game framerates. That's still unacceptable for me. Supposedly that has gotten somewhat better with SP1, but I think you will still be looking at a 25% reduction. There's a good little article from October that was in Maximum PC magazine on Vista/ DX10 gaming. Check it out on page 46 of this pdf. Also you might want to check out their forums for a lot more discussion about Vista

I have a 64bit (for coding) sys and a 32bit sys and until you start seeing more 64 games, it isn't worth it imho. I have also had 2 machines that I have actually uninstalled Vista from because it sucked balls so bad. Just my opinion though.

Unless you play games built for it. Supposedly Bioshock runs much better Dx10 than in DX9?
