Did you get butteflies when you cancelled your EQ2 account? I remember cancelling the EQ1 account and asking myself "Do you really want to do this?" I remember downgrading from Station access asking myself the same thing.
Wondering where I would be going and what I would be playing was a major concern of mine. I didn't want to be that person walking into an established MMO being the "noob" on the block and not knowing what was going on. I always wanted to be that person who had the most discoveries and the group force that experienced things for the very first time, before anyone else had a chance.
I didn't have that feeling this time when I hit the unsubscribe button and saw the account pending activity on the next billing date. I wonder if it's a sign of MMO burnout, maturity, MMO advancement, the number of alternatives to play, or something else. There's a ton of great games out there right now, in multiple platforms. Alot that you can just grab, log in, and have some sort of basic understanding of the controls, mentality, and foundation of the gameplay. Most MMOs.... well play like MMOs... Most FPS......play like FPS, etc... I hope you get the point I am making. So jumping into a new game is not as bad as it once was.
Unfortunately, EQ2 to me is just not fun any longer. I want it to be, I really wanna be excited and enjoying it, but I just can't get that feeling again. I think my time is just truly up. I've flirted with it for a while....actually cancelling twice before, coming back shortly afterwards. But it's just different this time. I really think it's over.
Actually a little excited about breaking the relationship between EQ2 and myself. I guess I've kind of been hog-tied to EQ2 with the pay-to-play monthly charges, and now that I'm out, I might be able to focus on other alternatives. I don't know... but wonder if anyone else has thought about this?

Totally understand.
I haven't canceled mine (yet). I am conflicted because I have never heard a fill answer if all characters retain all items gold if you decide to come back or not. As of this point I don't want to cancel my time investment and lose anything in case I decide to come back in a few months, but I also don't want to keep paying the $17.
Has anyone ever canceled and then come back months later to their characters being in the exact same state?

Yes, I have with a second account, and was resubcribed the exact way I left it. All cash was there.

I understand perfectly. This is the longest I have gone without logging into game since release of PvP server. The excitement for me surrounding that launch galvanized my play of the game including involvement in this community etc.
Interestingly, I truly believe EQ2 is the greatest MMO to date and perhaps even when including the upcoming games, yet I am burned out and have found it very unexciting for inexplicable reason honestly.
I am afraid to fully cancel because I may get that hunger next week, you never know :) One sad fact, I already look back to different times in my EQ2 life with fond nostalgia - a nostalgia that understands it will not be recaptured :(

Yeah I hope"the hunger" may return someday for me, it just isn't in the cards right now, but I also don't want to be paying $17 a month to have my account sit around either.

I had it slightly easier because I didn't cancel my EQ1 account until I'd been 'converted' to EQ2. I was feeling a little burned out and tried the EQ2 trial, and never really logged back into EQ1 :) So while it was a bit of a wrench unsubscribing for 5 years or so(?!) or my life, I'd already moved on. Cyanbane wrote:Has anyone ever canceled and then come back months later to their characters being in the exact same state? I can't comment on how EQ2 is, but that certainly applies to EQ1. I believe the "official" position is that your characters are guaranteed for three months or something, but I've never heard of ANY accounts losing characters - I knew people back in Old Norrath who reactivated after literally YEARS and picked up where they left off. My old characters are still listed on eqplayers, for example, and apparently I haven't logged on since Nov 2005!

I would call this "end game" burnout. Unfortunately the holy grail many including myself hoped RoK would be failed in many respects. I have found some "fire" so to speak in just trying to get my main to be one of the best in class. I also have been helping a few friends start their pvp experience which is fun. Like any other hobby I would drop it for a while and then pick it back up later, say when the next big content addition hits. Vacations are good sometimes even from MMOs.

Well I did it this weekend, told my guild I am stepping down as an officer and scrubbing my EQ2 account. I have been with it since the start, but like many of you lost the fun and desire to log in. Its weird not having Eq2 on my CPU, lol

I've been taking kind of a break from EQ2 the past couple of weeks but I don't think I'm done yet.

I can say I know that I am not done yet. In fact as I plow through lower levels of WoW and test the waters of Pirates I am reminded how complete and complex of a game EQ2 is - and how good it looks; it is far more visually appealing then either of these two game IMO.
Right now I am mostly playing CoD4 and Mario Galaxy. CoD4 with friends has given me my social/multiplayer fix for the time being. But just today I can say I had my first little hunger for an EQ2 fix :)
To Echo Fupa - striving to be one of the best of my class was a driving force for me before my hiatus. Maybe it will drive me again? Dunno.

I have cancelled my EQ2 account a couple of times and i don't think they have ever deleted inactive accounts. Most MMO's say 6 months in their terms and conditions. I even get emails from Funcom asking me to try Anarchy Online again for 30 days free, and my account must be 3 years old!
Like a few of you on here, I played EQ2 from launch and have to say it is the best all round MMO on the market today. but with RoK I have felt they have gone a bit overboard on the small factions and solo reputation quests in each zone. The zones are amazing to look at and explore but with the clumps of mobs and "grindy" quests I do feel RoK has tried to add a little bit of the WoW faction reputation aspect to the game and it doesn't do it as well as WoW does.
They made questing easy (for certain classes) and almost impossible for others and while I was initially impressed doing the solo quest lines in Kylong Plains, when I arrived at the Jungle I was totally burned out by the similar solo quests. Some quests I could obtain, send the pet 20 yards to kill the mobs and complete and redo the quest without my character actually moving.
Anyway, I am going off-topic and I hope a couple of months away from EQ2 will, like a few of you, bring that desire back to resubscribe.

yeah...no danger in cancelling your account and not having your toons.
I started EQ2 right after launch and then cancelled because i was so much into SWG...didn't come back for almost a year...and all my toons were fine...
my smuggler is still there in SWG....
my EQ1 characters are all still sitting outside Freeport...
my WoW Warlock and hunter I'm sure are doing fine as well...even though I cancelled my WoW account 2 years ago...
oh...and my Blaster in CoH is still hanging out near Atlas

oh...my point.....
i want to want to want to like RoK...but even as cool as bits are....I'm just not feeling it right now...
and with the birth of my son (1 month old) I don't think I've even logged in....
I've been thinking of switching over to WoW for now...because I feel like I can log in for shorter amounts of time....but I think that's not really true....
hell.....my wife and I have been getting our gaming fix from replaying old RPGs (something you can easily pause and take care of the baby easily) like KOTOR 1&2, Final Fantasy X and stuff.....
Maybe when the baby gets to be a few months old...I'll try Pirates or something....we'll see.....
