But as you increase the screen resolution, the performance burden shifts from the CPU to the GPU, and the performance margin between the high-end and budget rigs closes quickly. At 1600x1200 the 4000+ system is now only behind by 15%! At this point the Core 2 Extreme system only performs faster because of its GeForce 8800 GTX GPU, when the Core 2 system is equipped with a GeForce 8800 GT, the 4000+ runs just as fast.

Shows how great a deal the 8800 gt is. I play 1680x1050 and at that resolution and higher the GPU takes the brunt of the burden. Suggested retail is actually $230 but Newegg has a nasty habit of bumping prices as soon as the see an item is popular beyond retail. And again, the 8800gt versus gtx performance gap is negligable all else being equal and this at high resolution with all eye candy turned on - quite impressive and makes the gtx obsolete at$400+. Expect a new high end card soon.
