Just wanted to remind everyone that EQ is launching their latest progression server on 2/15. The server is called Fippy Darkpaw and will be the most classic EQ experience of any progression server ever launched. There is a fair amount of buzz and a number of old players coming back for launch. In a nutshell, this server will be a "time locked" progression server. The launch will be locked for 90 days as the classic vanilla EQ, before Kunark. From that point on, a in game poll, only available to characters on the progression server who are level 30 or above will be up to determine the pace at which to unlock each following expansion. Each expansion will last at least 60 days. In other words, it will take at least two years for it to catch up to the live game, if not longer.

They are taking out fast OOC regen, going to have a vote on old school corpse runs or just corpse runs for xp recovery, have taken out mercs and defiant gear, taken out the tutorial (all characters start in the old classic newbie zones) etc... I wouldn't be surprised to see the EC tunnel come back as well.

Also, all inactive accounts in good standing have been reactivated through 2/21. You can check it out for free for a week. Personally, I'm going to spend a good bit of time over there and the timing is good for me because I don't really want to do more Rift Beta - saving up that experience for the early release on the 24th when my character will not be wiped. Hope to see some of you guys in EQ. It would be fun to take down Crushbone or something together for old times sake. You can read more about it on the forums or check out the recent developer live casts (3 segments) - link below:

Does sound interesting, and I may throw in on my computer for casual play. But I know it will just sit there. Over the past several years the idea of returning to eqlive has been more appealing than my actual experiences.

My feel is this - I am a throwback in that I prefer the greater challenges, greater penalties, and the general heightened risk/reward that old school eqlive provides. However, I have less tolerance for the graphical world (not important I know but it bothers me) and more than anything the unintuitive interface and mechanics.

So I certainly appreciate how MMO's have grown and become more intuitive over time and this is a big hurdle for me in eqlive as I find myself frustrated by it more than the gameplay itself.
