Stargrace quits EQ2. I think she sums it up well: Quote: In case you haven’t been able to tell by now I am INCREDIBLY upset over the path that EQ2 has taken. I feel betrayed as a veteran player. Perhaps it’s silly, but again I’ve played this game for 6 years, and supported it and defended it time and time again. I have spent over $5,000 for two accounts over 6 years including character transfers, expansions, Legends of Norrath, and other items,
I just can’t do it any more.
So. Goodbye, EQ2. I really hope EQ1 and Vanguard do NOT go the same rout. I will play either of those games before I even consider returning to EQ2. Sorry for those dedicated readers who enjoyed my EQ2 posts – I’ll be writing about whatever games I happen to find myself in but they won’t be EQ2 related any more. I suppose it won’t be that hard for me as I really haven’t played EQ2 since before Sentinel’s Fate came out. I just wanted a little finality to it.
here. here. Is a shame what my once favorite game has become. I haven't played in a few weeks, if it wasn't for the free accounts I don't think I would even have it on my system anymore.

I cut my MMO teeth on EQ and spent over 10 years and countless hours in the franchise. I think I've been to 5 or 6 FanFaires now. I have to admit Smed and Smokejumper seem to be milking every penny out of this thing before it goes away. Want new looking armor? Buy it in the marketplace. New armor models through raiding, dungeons, pvp etc? Not really - who has time to invest developer time in that these days? Want mounts? Marketplace. Experience potions? Marketplace. Cool housing? Marketplace. New race? You guessed it - marketplace. It's really sad. They have a lot of good people on the EQ2 team, but they seem intent on making the micro ---> macro. It's not even that good of a game - relatively speaking. You can get so much more elsewhere. Even the draw of Velious doesn't get me anymore when I thinking about Smokejumper sitting around making forum posts like "just so you's knows." He's killing EQ2, one marketplace item at a time.

I play on EQ2x also. Its still enjoyable to me but doesn't quite have the same charm. I'm okay with the market place it just got very boring sometime around the time Brenlo reduced updates to four times a year. Per a post made by Smokejumper, they may consider tweaking it so new things come out a bit more often. I'm only going to hold my breath until Velious. If it flops ill prolly be gone too. Its going to be interesting with a record short beta.

Sentinel's Fate pretty much broke me when it comes to EQ2; it was such an eye-wateringly unimaginative expansion, I just lost heart. Sounds like things haven't exactly improved since. I actually ended up going back to EQ, which I've found strangely ... comfortable. I don't think I could imagine spending years back there, but it's been an excellent filler waiting for the Next Big Thing!
