$35 for a character xfer, more money to play a dwarf. I still dont get it.

Def have to look at it over the long term. I paid $15 for a char transfer (had 2000 soe credits already in my account for some reason - I didn't buy them not sure where they came from) and then another $18 for Silver account + open new character class.

So I have put in $33, but I canceled my regular live server account (which I am assuming will keep my chars over there in stasis) and can play my raid gear dirge mentored with Rot and Val on new serv or use my new toon.

I will prob resub live once Velious hits in Feb just to play around, but assuming I buy maybe $5 in broker credits that's an investment of $38 till feb vs 6months live at ~$70.

I imagine there are some other people out there who will utilize the F2P servs like I am in between expansions.

The main peave I have is a side-effect of the broker limitations. I started out on EQ2X all enthusiastic having decided my mage could make her own spells and if I roll a tailor I could make my own cloth gear as well. It then dawned on me that I had no easy way to get hold of the recipe books to make the mastercrafted gear. This small problem took the wind out of my sails a little bit and I haven't really bothered crafting so much. I hope that at some point we might be able to buy things like recipe books on the SC market. The legendary/fabled limitations won't really be a problem until later on in the game, SOE are probably thinking that anyone who gets high enough for it to be an issue will be so invested in their toon that a subscription would be their only option.

If SOE released a 'potion' that allowed the attunement of legendary/fabled gear, would anyone here buy it? I think it's such an obvious idea I can't see why it's not there already. They could charge say $10 for five uses, if you want to use your Serrated Bone Dirk from the Heritage Quest, you use one of your potions. It would give silver/bronze players more reason to keep playing, and make a few bucks along the way. Seems a win/win.

You can get all the advanced books through quests

WOW! I had no idea about that, thanks.

I can fully understand your scepticism Kottonmouth. I don't the think the freegame is aimed at a player like you, and it would probably mean you would get to pay more for doing exactly the same as you are doing right now for your $15. For a player like me though, it's a dream come true. I can play the game whenever I like and however I like as there is no pressure to play. For the first time in maybe three years the entire game world seems to be buzzing everytime I log on. There is always someone to group with in every zone I have been in, even though I am not in a guild or have many people on my friends list.

The saving money thing is irrelevant, I paid my subs for five years and never begrudged a penny. Likewise if I am enjoying playing on the EQ2X servers I would have no real objection to spending a few dollars every month for things to make it more fun.

I really hope that the free game doesn't impact on the game/server you play kottonmouth because I think that there is a market for both types. Sure, it would be great if free players could join the live servers and maybe one day upgrade, but SOE have chose not to do that.

Its another option that works for people (both old players and new). I think it was a great idea and definitely has put more people into EQ2 to enjoy it (this sites numbers will attest to that also).

So I paid $35 to transfer my main over.

I paid $10 to upgrade to Silver.

I also paid $7.50 to roll a Ranger.

I didn't buy any of the race packs because I prefer to play a Half-Elf (tracking racial trait ftw!)

So I know have my main over which is a monk, I rolled a Ranger and a Inq.

I then paid $10 to create my own guild.

I've paid 62.50.

That's it. I'm done. For around 4 months subscription I don't think I'll have to pay anything for at least a year. Because as a Silver I can't control the AA slider (its locked at 50%) I've disabled Quest XP to slow down leveling. I plan on playing my Ranger and Inq to 80 before I even think about buying SF or the upcoming expansion.

I have worked around the restrictions and my goal is to experience Norrath fully as a Silver subscriber. I have no dreams of raiding so equipping Fabled gear or Master spells isn't important to me.

For some people I'm sure playing on EQ2X will end up costing them more. They'll drop $10 for the MC armor when they hit 62 or whatever. They'll spend another $10 on appearance armor.

But for me, I'm going to milk my 62.50 for all its worth.

I'd dropped EQ2 largely because I couldn't really justify paying monthly subs for the very limited time I was managing to get on, especially two-boxing. However, having finally got around to exploring it, it appears that EQ2X two-boxes quite happily, and both my old mains happen to be classes that are free (Zerker and Templar).

I've always liked the lower end of the game so I don't mind going back to the beginning; so essentially I get to drop occasionally back into EQ2, two-boxing the way I enjoy, for free. That's sweet enough that I can put up with the sillier restrictions and that daft box popping up to tell me to upgrade every now and then!

Wings and Gentlewind.

But I'm going to be afk for the next 6 weeks while I go on a road trip to parts south and hang with some friends. Good thing I don't have to pay a sub while I'm away :D

hello all,

being new to EQ2, I thought I'd put my 2 cents in. I think EQ2X is great... sure there are a few restrictions... but for the most part it's not going to keep me from enjoying the game.

I don't like paying monthly for something I may or may not use... or use enough. I like to 2 box because I don't have much gaming time... so if I can work 2 characters up at the same time all the better.

for the guy talking about being nickle and dimed... I have 2 silver accounts... which cost me $20 and I bought 10 broker coins which was $1.50 I don't think the broker coins is a bad idea... makes you think more before putting something up for sale... and you might just actually decide to play the game to get what you want instead of buying it.

so total I've spent $21.50.... if I was on live this would have cost me $60 for sept. and oct. I may buy a character class next month... so that will put me at $29... on live I'd be up to $90.

Oh and if I want more character slots... for $10 I can make another account and get 3 character slots... vs. $10 for one on live.

Anyway I think there is room for both play types, do what is right for you... and don't look down on the ones that play EQ2X.

Really we are more hardcore... we play the game with only 3 bag slots! lol

Silver members can now buy items from the Broker.

They still need to purchase broker credits to *place* items onto the Broker, but they now have unlimited capacity to BUY from the Broker.

Enjoy!

Silver membership now allows buying from the Broker

Well that solves one of my biggest peaves.

Bad idea business-wise IMO. This was the only thing I seriously considered paying money for.
