I've been following the development of GW2 pretty closely and I have to say they are doing some really interesting and amazing things. If you're not up-to-date I recommend checking out there new blog and taking some time to go through all the articles.
http://www.arena.net/blog/category/guild-wars-2One gameplay element that seems interesting is how they are taking away healers. These excerpts are taken from several postings on the main blog:
Quote:We're making players more self sufficient, but are also providing appealing ways for them to effortlessly work together to create a more inspired moment-to-moment experience. That is why Guild Wars 2 does not have a dedicated healing class.
Quote:Q: We’ve read some concerns about limitations of a 10-slot skill bar. Some players feel that it’s inflexible and doesn’t allow for enough creativity in making a build. What say you?
Eric: Think of it this way: You’ve got 5 slots that you can slot freely, with the caveat that you have to bring one heal and one elite skill.
Quote:Q: Your main argument for the removal of the healing class seems to be countering the message “LF Monk” in MMOs. Is this a situation that you have carefully studied in-game, or is it an impression created by reading forums and articles?
A: This is not the main argument for removing healing classes; it is just one of the added benefits. That being said, we have studied class distribution in games and used that—as well as hands on experience—to know that there is indeed a lot of LF(Healer) in games that do have dedicated healers.

So players will be forced to carry at least 1 healing spell with them. In addition, classes will have revival skills to help people in a 'downed' state.
I think the removal of one of the foundation classes (tank, dps, heals) is an interesting and risky move. Many people who play MMOs only play healers. I think I remember a blog where the person posted about all the healing classes they have played.
With GW a player could use a NPC healer (hero or henchman) but GW2 will not incorporate them.
Pretty interesting stuff. I haven't played EQ2 or Eve in some time. But I will be one of the first to check out GW2. Since he has no sub cost I'm sure the entertainment value will cover the box price.
