I promised Cyan I would check out the new site and drop a recipe for oatmeal Stout that uses buckwheat honey. It is ohh so good. I will post that recipe tomorrow (IM at work and dont have it....Wishing I was at home raiding MMIS). My only condition is he needs to drink one on the podcast and somehow refer to Thundar the Barbarian (the greatest cartoon of my childhood).

New site rocks. Had a tough time logging in intially but tried again a week later and had no issues. Nice Work.

Second part of the post is my oldest son wants to try Magic the gathering. I thought it would be cool to play with him. I never have played though. Suggestions on what I should buy to get started. Starter deck, booster packs, etc. Thanks ahead of time.

So heres the recipe I promised:

3.3# Amber Malt Extract
3.3# Dark Malt Extract
2# of Buckwheat Honey
1# of Crystal Malt (60L)
.5# Chocolate Malt
.75# Roasted Barley
.25# Black Patent Malt
1# of Rolled Oats
2.0 Oz of Cascade hops (bittering)
1.0 Oz of Liberty hops (Aroma)
1 vial of irish ale yeast (I like White labs)

Steep the grains at 155 for about half hour. Add the extracts, honey, oats, and cascade hops and boil for an hour. Turn off heat and add the liberty hops for 15 minutes. Cool the wort. Strain it. Pitch the yeast. Ferment for 10-14 days. Bottle with dry malt extract primer (1.25 cups). Age in bottle for 2-3 weeks. OG is about 1.051.

Did I mention this is a diet beer :)

Yeah, no point in getting wasted. Just enjoy a tasty drink every now and then.

One benefit of homebrew is you dont get a hangover if you drink a tad too much. Or atleast no where as bad as one by a long shot. Another reason for everyone to brew. WOOT. Everyone IMO should experience a good old MD 20/20 hangover though. It builds character.
