we got owned 90% of the time by Naggy strat groups. I personally am all for server based groups. When I play Ganak or Towers I love having a x2 or x4 of Naggy peeps because we usually always win. That being said, the Gears PUGs I was with tonight really sounded fed up with the "premade" Naggy groups they had been going up against and pretty much sounded like (with conviction) that BGs were not worth doing because they always get slaughtered. Everyone knew going into BGs that Naggy serv peeps would have a big edge (because hey, thats the way we 'grew up') but I am wondering if in the end this hurts Naggy players because it will soon be harder to find BG groups because no one from other servers wants to face us, so instead they go raid for T9 raid gear and skip BGs all together.

So were is the line EQ2-Dailians, I know most of us play on PvP servs, but what does everyone else think?

I think the Blue Babies can suck it,

But yes in the end this will be an issue if the PvE players do not suck it, fight through it, and leanr how to play. If they are willing to do that then the BGs will be fine.

I think once the "real" season starts and we get leaderboards, prizes, ETC... the blue players will have something to fight for and the BGs will be fine.

Right now they just go to the BGs to get tokens which only gets them armor to use in the BGs. They jusy need something larger to fight for.

PVP people have the play style experience and that PVP gear set they have is crazy.

We PVEers are learning though and I am finding myself getting ass-raped far less lately then when BG 1st came out. I think in a few months, with the gear people can earn playing BG,and the experience learning the play style, the playing field will level out a little.

I'm keeping an eye on for you guys...but you arn't all level 90 yet are you? I can only do BG vs other Level 90s. Look for my Swashy from Everfrost, Maddrox(I pretty much retired Kotttonmouth my Fury)Come put my PVE ass in place :)

It would be a neat idea if you could form rooms for BGs, ie get a bunch of friends together from different servers and all book a room and play BGs again each other for however long the room was open. Would be fun. Does WOW have something like this or is random like EQ2 also?

Great idea cyan - need to get that to a dev - they have their hands full atm but that is a worthwhile idea to have implemented

ready for leaderboards myself

WoW's battlegrounds are all still random like EQ2, the latest development is effectively to add in the "first available" feature sort of, with bonuses given to players for picking this and with daily bonuses for running one. It mirrors their cross server dungeons, not really sure why they implemented it though myself as their battlegrounds used to work fine, although I wonder if they just lost some popularity/populations got spread out due to additional BGs being added in.

As for the original problem, I definitely see it as a problem with PVP, its still fun playing and being beaten but no fun at all just being stomped flat by a well geared and coordinated group of players, just the gear difference on its own can be a killer. That was one reason I dropped out of BG PVP in WoW because you needed to devote so much time to getting PVP gear before you could actually make a difference to a BG which effectively meant grinding.

Adding in a league and some sort of matchmaking to ease players into it is definitely something I'd like to see implemented, on the positive side of things after a few BG's I straight away felt like I was playing my character very badly. There is just so much to improve now here, better key mapping, positioning to swap targets better etc, and I know that's just the basics I need to get right.

The really big downside though on EU servers is that they've not linked all the servers together (Runnyeye and Splitpaw are linked, the language servers are solo), 6v6 is okish for getting in but the others are nigh on impossible.

It also means we cannot get to fight against Nagafen players for good and bad, I've suggested when patch times allow for EU vs US BG's to be possible, I could imagine some really good rivalry going there (I remember Guildwars had the USvsEUvsAsia thing going).

Thats a huge stink. Did they mention why they couldn't get you guys in to the wider circle of US servers?

There's a thread on the official forums there where Rothgar gave two reasons

Rothgar
Quote:
As far as combining EU servers with US servers, you guys were correct about one of the issues being due to different patch times. Another issue is the physical location of the servers. The US BG server is located here while some of your servers are in Amsterdam. So, you might experience longer ping times when playing on the US BG world than US players would be getting.

Even if we didn't worry about the ping times, the different patch times would be an issue. This would mean either changing the patch times to coincide with US (during your peak) or having battlegrounds disabled until your patch goes live and the versions are in sync. Considering that we patch pretty frequently for hotfixes, neither of these is a very good option and would disrupt your playtime significantly.

Personally I think ping times are a total non issue, especially since I understand Runnyeye is in the US already (and if not then Planetside seems to run fine here). On the patch it is a more annoying problem, but since the past few weeks experience has shown that with just Splitpaw and Runnyeye together there have been zero 12v12 and 24v24 BG's going I don't see BG's being down for a day a week as being a big problem if it means plentiful BG's for 6 days a week.

(Trivia : I actually heard the 24v24 token was "discovered" for the first time a week or two after BG's were launched on the German server when a large group of people got together :) ).

We'll see I guess, the EU servers definitely could do with some programmer love here though.

The ping time is definitely bullshit - I've always played on US servers (both EQ and EQ2) and it's never been an issue. Hell, our guild is primarily a Euro guild; back in the days of EQ it was a positive tactical advantage that we were awake and active while the bulk of the server population was at work, so we could get to the contested mobs :)

In the morning of March 5th 2010 the bottle token for the 24v24 BG was discovered on Valor.

It was just 2 matches, and I guess it took some cross server channel coordination to get enough people for that x4 BG (turned out to be a ~18v~18 match).

It would be great to not have that hassle just to play Hold the Tower in BG.

Its sort of amusing on one hand :) , but depressing on the other, I actually didn't realise there were 2 German language servers going.

I got my warden to 80 (on antonia bayle) last weekend and immediately started playing battlegrounds. I played a few rounds and then upgraded my heals and had some level 80 battlegrounds gear made. I almost had a heart attack when I saw that hidebound pelts wher 20+ plat each. OUCH!!!! Thankfully, the person that I was hiring to make the gear had some pelts and my guild had some too. I spent aroun 100+ plat gearing up for battlegrounds. I FREAKING LOVED IT! This is what eq2 pvp had been missing. The one thing that Sony needs to do ASAP is BG writs. Guildies need a reason other than gear to do BGs. It would be a great alternative to pve writs.

and PUGs sucks, I rarely won a BG scenario because I was queueing self.
