No experience of it myself yet (going to try and get on there though tonight), but this bit from the forums sounds a great move

I think we're also going to change Ganak to 12 vs 12 and see if that feels better than 6 vs 6.

Lots of balance problems, run speed buffs causing problems with capture the flag etc so it sounds like things are going to change rapidly the next couple of weeks.

Really interested to see what my guardian will be like there, I think if its balanced and working I should be doing low damage but with great (at least physical) survivability, factoring in the group buffs/abilities though is a tough one.

I hope they don't balance anything.

How about allowing the community to come up with Battleground strategies and counter strategies?

I wonder if they will allow a second mirror to allow for storing another set of AAs for battlegrounds.

I'm excited about battlegrounds, however I'm concerned with folks being turned off because they can't compete against well-geared folks. IMO, they should allow only masteredcrafted gear or gear earned from participating in battlegrounds. TBH, I'm getting tired of levelling a toon on nagafen and feeling a need to spend scores of plat in order to compete. I wouldn't want battlegrounds to be that way. Imagine a group of 80s in non-raid or non-pvp gear going against a group of folks in top gear.
I made a toon on AB just for giggles the other day and I was talking with a level 80 there. The person thought it was insance that someone could go and spend 70 plat gearing up a t2 toon when they haven't even needed that much for their level 80 toon. It's like nagafen has a huge tabacco tax! We need to have a freaking boston tea party on that server.

I feel like a group with a decent plan can have an advantage in this situation. I have killed many higher geared peeps one on one by waiting for the right moment. I have also been killed in the same manner.

I just read that PVP gear from the pvp servers will not be allowed in battlegrounds. I think this is a good thing. So what are players going to do if they were not end game raiders? You still get a token if you lose, fortunately.

not only that but supposedly raid gear will now be far less effective pvp because it lacks toughness as a stat.

They have designed SF to require you to have two sets of gear to be effective, a pvp set with toughness stat and a pve set with normal resists.

Problem for those of us on red servers is our pve and pvp collides in overland content - especially as this expansion returns to an overland emphasis with contested raids and all. Once again red servers will lag behind blue in raid progression, before due to class imbalance, now due to the armor restrictions.

Sorry, but I think it totally sucks, creates two separate games ala WoW - kills immersion for me which is always #1 in how I view the game.

I'm not keen on the splitting of gear for PVE/PVP myself either, the only benefit I see is that you don't get the situation where people stand around in BG's AFK etc to earn high level gear to then skip PVE progression (which is what happened in WoW for their TBC, but I never saw this in WAR). It could even happen still if they are just adding this toughness onto armour instead of taking away PVE stats in its place.

But if it means that anything but PVP gear is useless in PVP then it makes PVP a separate game as you say. For me that's not good as I want to get a new piece of gear and then jump into a BG and use it (I'm a casual PVP'er).

While I think how they balance the game matters (if the only counter say to class X was to roll class X) to a point, the biggest problem I think is when players cannot contribute to a BG without spending time grinding out special PVP gear (the state of WoW's PVP right now). I got very bored very quickly running around effectively as a spectator in WoW's BG's because my new toon couldn't take a hit or do anything to effect the result of the BG.

Yet I never had that problem in WAR, I'm going to jump into EQ2 battlegrounds and see how things work, I have hopes that the future result will be more like WAR then WoW here.

It kind of is two different games between the pvp and pve servers already. If you pvp on nagafen and then go to AB and duels, there are differences. For example: if a scout is sneaking in pvp, you can see the scout when they are close to you. If you duel on a pve server, you can't see a scout that is sneaking. Things like this make the game play slightly different. I wonder if PVP mechanics will apply to BG?

I don't mind having different sets of gear for different purposes. I do think they need a separate set of battlegrounds gear (even an entry level set for new battlegrounders with better sets earned by particpating in battlegrounds scenarios), however, we also then need a battlegrounds tab. With that, we could have an appearance tab, pve or pvp tab, and a battelgrounds tab. That way we won't have to switch gear when we're queued up for battelgrounds.
Vanguard does something like this with diplomacy, harvesting and adventuring sets of armour and tabs.

More testing tonight. They currently plan to have them go live on Thursday. Make sure to log in during the testing and fight some of the SOE staff. If you are in a fight with the SOE staff you get a sweet cloak as a reward when the battlegrounds go live.

Looking forward to this, hate the delay, but as long as they get it right I'm good.
