Hmm. So, digital download is now a week *later* than retail boxes, which so far are only available in the US?

SOE seem to be going out of their way to piss off their international audience this time around... /grr

I'm hoping here that the retail boxes will be released in the UK at least. I'd love to get the collectors edition here as I'm a big fan of extra fluff with a game, as a last resort I'll have to order from the US probably in January if Amazon UK or another retailer hasn't picked up the game by then.
That will be painful too since I'll be caught for import taxes for anything over £18, I do expect the UK outlets to get hold of it though.

I'm wondering as to what the reason if for the pre-ordering, my guess is that they are trying to drum up some big sales in advance of release to convince retailers its a game that sells?

Everything on the forums does tell me they are really serious about this big marketing push.

Not only that, but the conversion rate would suck.

I think people are just used to seeing a new EQ2 expansion during the holidays, so they want to make sure they are not forgotten. (ie HEY guys we DO have one, just in Feb).

On "Treasure Island" as the car dealers like to call it we've been used to some pretty brutal exchange rates, still surely they cannot be as bad as the Blizzard pet store ($1 to £1!).

That makes a lot of sense, if its a normal time that people spend out then why not soak up some of the cash.

I am still hoping that its just Amazon being slow to get their non-US sites updated here, selling a pre-order title should be the easiest job in world when it come to working out stock levels, fingers crossed here.

It is just Amazon and the other net sites being a tad slow in updateing the information about international shipping. You should see the updates on shipping in the next few weeks.

Well no; we don't want to buy from Amazon US and have to pay a small fortune for international shipping. We want Amazon UK to sell the damn thing.

Actually, no, I want to be able to buy the digital download on launch day rather than having to wait an extra week. Seriously, what the hell are SOE thinking there? Are they actively trying to reduce the number of people taking the digital option - surely they make more money if they don't have to ship physical boxes?

Its really confusing to me also, I would think they would WANT digital sales. I am surprised they don't offer a digital collectors version ONLY on SOE's marketplace.

Until the business models change the brick and mortor stores have to be appeased. There is no way around it. SOE has to give the retailers a reason to stock the box.

Meh. Well as SOE have a proven track record in completely disregarding brick and mortar stores in Europe, could they perhaps give us the frigging download on time instead of a week late? :)

There's an update on the official forums on this one

3) Best news for last! I don't have details and couldn't release them even if I did... However, our sales team is speaking with a couple of publishers and trying to work out details of international distribution. As soon as we have the deals signed, we'll make sure to give you the details on this.

Fingers crossed we could maybe even get back to the days of pre-2007 when we could buy SOE games in the shops, they've been neglected for way too long. I do wonder how much of this was feedback actually from the official forums, they made the announcement originally stating all international orders need to be made from the US directly but changed their minds.

Minus Fry's, its actually getting pretty hard to do that over here across the pond also.

Its looking pretty sad here too, the local game store has just removed the last 6 ft wall shelf of games, so that just leaves one single 6 ft middle of room sort of rack double sided. I know digital download here is a problem, but I wonder if the fact these stores are selling the same old tired collection of games as they were selling 6 months ago is a key factor in why they aren't doing so well.

The top 10 seems to only have Armoured warfare 2 different in it, I know they take up most of the prime space in that chart with WoW, a WoW expansion, a WoW gamecard, and Sims3. I'm not sure on the quality of what's stocked, but they did have a few copies of Sins of a Solar empire a while ago, but they sold out within a few weeks and never restocked.

I'm suspicious here, its almost as if they just fill in space with whatever stock they have to hand, and stock to hand is normally the stuff that doesn't sell. One thing for sure though, WoW probably is one of the worst offenders when it comes to retail presentation, between the gamecard box and the original game box they've managed to get retailers to sell the same design box now for 5 years, I'm sure that's not good for attracting people into the store, people must be bored to tears with looking at it by now.

Its probably too much to ask for, but seeing the dull state of the game stores I think if SOE gave out a cardboard sales display they'd get some free advertising for a couple of months if it brightened things up.
