http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_8800_gt/index.htmlAll I can say is wow! $230 bucks gets you a card that slaps the 8800gts in the face and is only barely beaten by the current top available 8800GTX - and this at 1600x1200 with x4AA etc.! This makes a huge jump in performance/price for those looking to buy, perhaps the biggest in a couple of years. ATI makes their new foray in 2 weeks. Interestingly most hardware experts agree that ATI has been technically superior this past generation yet is being whipped in driver optimization - their next generation from a technical standpoint supposedly even further surpasses NVIDIA - but whether or not that translates in game performance is yet to be seen. In any case, it is a great time to buy. Theo

Theo, you made it :)
Still working on some of the bugs, glad to see you post though.
That is a very very good deal, probably one of the best I have seen in the last 6 months compared to the market.

This just might be the time to utilize that second PCI Express slot and try out SLI on my machine...
I have never run SLI before, can anyone who has gone SLI tell me if there are any hidden problems with going to SLI? I got myself a nice AMD Dual core chip before I found out that it has a lot of drawbacks when it comes to games and such that are not written to support multi-threading, and I dont want to jump $500 into another major problem to solve...

Ordered my 8800GT today although I payed a premium to get it. Everyone is overpricing due to the demand and very very few are to be found at the moment.
I did wait for AMD's new offerings which were released today and yet again they are being trounced soundly by NVIDIA. Can't wait to get it!

Theo Ok. I'm a hardware idiot. My current card is a Nvidia 7900Gt. 256MB. DDR2 (I think) is it worth the cost for an upgrade to this card? Seems like I'd be better off with a 512 MB card.

The memory has everything to do with resolution. If you play at higher resolutions 256mb will not cut it and framerates and rendering suffer.
