As I write this, we have concept artists and game designers working hard in our studio-taking the lessons of the past, the best parts of the present and the most promising ideas for the future-to bring the world of Norrath to a new generation of players, as well as the dedicated legions of fans who made the EverQuest franchise timeless. I hope we'll see you there."SOE Confirms Development on EverQuest "Next"I would say pretty much confirmed previous to this, and also with other stuff they alluded to in the article pretty confident it will be on PS3 along with PC. I really don't know what to think about this. I can see them going the Free Realms route of streaming/microtrans based, but they can't (and won't) go against their hardcore loyal fanbase (raiding, etc). I just don't know what to expect. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think? If they want their current fanbase to play it then its got to be something deep, and more sandboxy then WoW. I would expect the PS3 to be supported too, but I really just don't know though how they can ever get a MMO to work correctly on the PS3 with a clunky console PS3 gamepad. One question here, they did talk about EQ online adventures being ahead of its time which kind of implies it has a correct time soonish? How did this work on the PS2 gameplay and control wise? Is it anything like EQ2? I think they could make the game with microtransactions, but only for fluff, I'd expect that they will always have a pay monthly deal since that's where all the big money is currently. They might expand it though where you can pay for more character slots etc, but despite all the talk of microtransactions I do think there is a real hard divide between people who are prepared to pay to advance through a game, and others (like me) who run a mile from anything with that formulae even if paying monthly works out the same cost.

I'm interested in it of course but I think it's still many years off. I would be willing to bet by the time they get it developed the PS3 will be obsolete.

The PS2 came out in 2000 and the PS3 in 2006, if they do follow that schedule it will be 2012 before the new one, I do think you are right in unless they are using some engine they already have (egads Free Realms?) it will be cutting it close.
