I've just been getting into Sins of a solar empire, if you are looking for a good space strategy I'd recommend it, it manages to give a command and conquer game with some depth, decent AI and all without being fiddly, one unique feature to me was the scaling, I've not seen something move so smoothly from a solar view straight down to individual ships and still run on a low end platform (its the first PC game I've managed to get heavily into since Age of Wonders a fantasy strategy game, which makes a refreshing change from 24/7 on a MMO :) ).

Anyway, enough of plugging their game, its a studio I've not heard of before but should have since they've been selling bucket loads of games and hitting the No.1 position recently in the charts, they give their own reason for it which makes sense in that they are not making the games that are hot stuff - like the big franchises Grand Theft etc but just games that people want to play which I guess is easy to claim when you are on top, but does have a ring of truth with what the press want to cover, the other thing that is telling is about piracy in that they have zero copy protection and yet still hit the no.1 spot

Ironclad games on Piracy

It makes sense from what they are saying with their strategy of ignoring the Chinese market, as they say it doesn't matter how many people want to play their game, the fact is no one will want to pay for it. It was interesting hearing about that other company Iron law entertainment that went bust with some of it being attributed to bad press from people who pirated the game, and then blamed it for being buggy as the pirated version they played still had copy protection inside it. The fact the game didn't sound too good or original either though can't have helped...

I totally agree on the non distribution to the Chinese market. If they pick it up fine, but don't gear it towards them. I think it sounds like this company is in it to make fun games, not sell upteen billion mmo accounts. Which is very respectable.
