With MMO's coming out on a monthly basis (admittedly mostly free to play) for sure the overall playerbase is increasing because of marketing / word of mouth (it's hard to find a website not promoting "the newest game"), but at the same time all those games are spreading out the population. It's a bit saturated really... Especially with all the Lineage 2 engine clones out there :p (not talking about the rinky dink web browser ones).
