Quote:The pressure to conform to traditional gender roles might mean that some women are put off activities seen as "masculine", whereas women who reject traditional gender roles might be more likely to play MMOs such as EverQuest II.
Perhaps in support of this the survey revealed an unusually high level of bisexuality among the women who took part in the study - over five times higher than the general population.

In my experience of EQ2 I have noticed more actual women then men playing it, or at least a higher proportion then in WoW, I think that is because of WoWs more cartoon "everything's violent" world whereas EQ2 has a more realistic setting where not every character spends all their time at war. Plus there is a lot more to do then killing things.
That and there is something truly beautiful about some areas of EQ2, whereas in WoW most of it feels like either a battleground, ex-battleground or the empty space between battlegrounds ;)
And the definition of females playing I use is based on either hearing a female voice or those sort give aways like "sorry just need to go afk cooking dinner for my daughter" that happened to someone I grouped up with in WoW, ok it could be people pretending, but I there are only so many compulsive liars out there. If I see a female avatar normally I assume its a male unless I'm convinced otherwise.

The issue is the mean age. I'd expect the average eq2 player to be around college age. I think the average person in the general pop to be about 50. As such, I'd expect sexually adventurous behavior to be more common in the younger (eq2 player) group. I'm guessing that sales of Frank Sinatra albums are higher in the general pop than amongst eq2 players. But that wouldn't make a good headline.
