West Karana Blog

Interesting take by Tipa. I do hope SOE gets balance right with this expansion. I seriously have some MMO A.D.D. these days, but after the other games I have played getting back to dungeon crawls is a must for me. No one is doing it in AoC and it really isn't the reason people are playing War although there are a few out there - Sewers comes to mind at about lvl 15.

Anyway, I think Tipa is dead on on her analysis in just about everyway.

The article made me think too here about what I like about MMO's, exploring the world is fun and one thing, but without epic dungeon runs it feels like its
missing something. And I do hope as Karana says they take a leaf out of WoW's book and make a rotating daily for each dungeon along with some mean loot placement, even with that in WoW some heroics just get left alone due to the time vs reward problem, without it it would really have been bad.

I even wonder if some dungeons should be closed off for times of the day, or unless certain world events have been recently completed (top end raid say in the previous 24hr)? I know the original Guildwars had a sort of instance that was only open to players of the European/US/Asian servers if their faction was the current world champion (3 wins in a row too!). Things like that would make the world come alive a bit more for me.

I think she is spot on with her analysis except for 1 thing.

After watching the MMO market over the past year I think that MMO players want one thing: What ever is not being put into their current game.

I know that sounds funny, but I find my self being hypocritical about it all the time. I say I want one thing (AMAZING 1 on 1 PvP - Got with Conan) or (Amazing RvR - I got with War) but after about a month I find myself drifting back to something I can play by myself that isn't pvp (360, etc). To be honest I have tried pretty much every MMO and none of them are what I am looking for, but all of them have a reason that I would go back to them if I get bored.

I have figured out it is pretty much impossible to please me and my $15 every month. I am sure MMO devs figured this out awhile ago and just go off creating whatever it is that THEY want. Which seems to work for at least a while.

I am happily dabbling back in EQ2 over the past few nights and will prob give it another go, but 2 months after the expansion I can't say that I won't be looking for something else. It just seems thats the way it goes in MMO land, and finally I am pretty much fine with that. As long as the servers keep my characters while I take time off, I can honestly say that i might see them (and they might see my CC #) again in a few months when a new expansion comes out.

I'm pretty much the same way Cyan. Except for the fact that it takes a long time for me to wisen up and drop my subs to games that I'm not really playing (AoC was an exception).

My task is done/My song has ceased/My theme has died into an echo/It is fit.
