Artist Jim Lee gets in on DC gameQuote:Q: What can you say about the artistic style of the game?
A: I actually spend a lot of time on the faces. As a gamer, I like to go up and look at people's faces and see how good of a job they did. For me, it does feel more alive because the video games have sound and movement. … To me, I'm not trying to get Superman to look like he is the guy who lives next door. To me, he should still look iconic and bold, and that's what we do best.
I can appreciate that.
This project is one of those that I think could turn out amazingly awesome or either really really bad version of COX. I really liked the art that was shown at E3 (below) but for myself I always have this hang up on comic based games that it is hard for me to see an MMO as a whole bunch of heroes. When you play EQ2 or other fantasy MMOs you start out somewhat as a 'regular' a townie per se. You build yourself into a hero as you progress through the game, and if the game is done right you seem to see yourself as getting more and more popular as the game goes on. With an action hero game, it seems like you would have these innate abilities from the beginning. I assume there is some type of leveling/experience gathering, but it almost seems like you don't "make" your character great, what "makes" your character great is already there.
Does this make sense to anyone?
I am not saying it can't be done (and that SOE has not assembled a great team to do it), but I think comic book hero subject matter takes a little more finesse than a normal MMO (and of course the art has to be way above par also). It is a big endevour (comic book MMO), for an industry that already is full of big endevours (MMO industry).
