So has anyone heard of this Living Legacy promotion that SOE is doing? Apparently, if you've EVER played Everquest or Everquest II, your account has been reopened and you have access for 2 months for free. There's other incentives, I really didn't read too much into it.

Too damn bad I cancelled my account a couple of days ago... or is that bad? I don't know.

So the question: Is SOE showing that it's hurting pretty bad, or is this just innovative marketing and John Smedley finally giving in to his team of elves and their wacky ways.

I don't think it shows they are hurting bad or anything, but I do think it is in direct reply to Conan's success. Just until they can get Agency/Free Realms etc out the door.

Actually from what I understand if you cancelled your account you can play free for two months. In fact I started my old EQ 1 account yesterday, downloaded the patch and logged in and was never asked for credit card information.

Just a heads up

I've whined about how shit their marketing is for a long time. Nice to see them doing something to promote what's still a great product. (And unbelieveable that folks are on the official forums whining that their loyalty is not being respected. I just don't get how anybody loses, because other peeps are winning.)

It would be nice to see them do some marketing that involved risking a little bit of SOE's capital to see if they can get more players in. I can't see that the LL promo will actually cost them a penny, save for a few bucks worth of subs for introducers and people who come back and buy the next expansion.

If they put some bucks into ads, boxes on shelves and in store promos for the next expansion that would be very nice. And journos are cheap dates. 2 plane tickets, an "exclusive interview" with any one of about 17 senior SOE devs and you've got coverage. WoW is magazine-advertising their dumbass card game ffs.

EQ built and built for several years til WoW arrived - EQ2 should aim for the same.
