I immediately received my beta key the moment I resubscribed to Fileplanet/gamespy and signed up for the beta.
The download mirrors have been full for past hour though and the links disappear when full - still waiting for the link to show.

Describe what you did for us (and give links :)) It is spashed on the front page of fileplanet.com here is a direct link to the beta site - fileplanet linkIt is for subscribers only, the moment I logged in with my subscription account I was able to download the client and received a key. The event opens May 1st and runs until launch. I have already downloaded the client and the patcher has updated the file a few times - but I don't have access with my account until May 1st and the game will not run. Theo

There are two betas that are about to be underway. The first is the "closed beta." It's a continuation on the ongoing beta and has no level caps or content limitations. People are testing 13+ content, raids, pvp, etc... The second is the "fileplanet beta." Basically, it's Funcom's open beta stress test. They partnered with Fileplanet and gave them 50,000 beta keys. To get a key you have to join Fileplanet for a one month subscription and then follow the links. If comcast is your ISP, you can get a free fileplanet membership then sign up for beta. Search "comcast fileplanet" on the Hyborian forums at funcom.com for more info on that. The file planet client is 13 gigs zipped and unzips to about 26 gigs. You can patch it and be ready to log in to the beta on Thursday morning of this week. Both betas will continue until around the 14-16th when they will wipe everything to get ready for early entry on the 17th.
The open beta has a level cap of 13... But you have access to all the races/characters and tortage newbie content both solo and group. I'm not sure if pvp is available in open beta other than in the capture the skull and team deathmatch mini-games. See you all in Hyboria hopefully. If you like EQ2 graphically and get good system performance, you might just love Conan. It's going to have a successful launch and be the #2 MMO in the US numbers wise behind WOW. That's my prediction.
I'm hoping the NDA gets lifted when open beta starts because I just might have some info on things that have occured to date with the closed beta. You never know :)

Thanks guys. That is very helpful. For all you comcast subscribers out there follow this link to sign up for free gamespy / fileplanet. It worked very well for me. Today looks like the last day you can get a beta key though so don't delay. http://www.comcast.net/games/invasion/sales/index2.jsp

Thanks for the link from Comcast Rot. I have the faster 8 meg service and never knew this was being offered. I'm all signed up, got my beta key and am currently downloading the client! Too bad the cap is only level 13.

This is not working for me. I got signed up for founders club but it keeps telling me I have to get a subscription to file planet before I can download. Once you get signed up for founders is it supposed to give you a free account to fileplanet.com?

I had the same problem. At the login page click on the IGN Insider button and login using your nickname NOT your email address. That worked for me. I found that in the customer service faqs.

I was wondering what all is instanced and what all isn't. I know the low level storyline is supposed to be "single player" but I felt like sometimes Tortuga was a crowded and other times not at all. I couldn't get it to msg friends who I knew where on last night. I got one msg from Theo and tried to msg back but I don't think it went through, same with trying to msg Rot and Val. I think the game looks just as good as Vanguard (which I thought looked pretty good) but runs about 10x better, the stutter/lag I was seeing I think was in the client side I think (only reason i say this is because when I would end the stutter I was usually 30 feet from the direction I was heading), so I think they just need to work on their latency issues. Over all though I am semi-impressed, it isn't bad and seems to be in a much better position than vanguard was at launch, but I think they still have some kinks, (albiet small) to work out before launch to be on the same lvl as LOTRO at launch. It is still beta though so they have time. The island and graphics are great though. I really don't see the "depth" that everyone was talking about with combat, but that might be my class because it doesn't have combos. I like that they cap'd everyone at 13, it will get more people to play different classes. Over all, it looks like a pertty good game. It already is 10x better than AO at launch. That was Funcom at it's worst, I hope they learned from it (and it looks like they have)

I am also impressed at how well it looks and agree that performance issues at this time appear to be on the server side. Then again, that is what we are being used for - stressing those servers :) It reminds of Vanguard a bit although VG's environments remain the most beautiful and high res I have seen. VG is also completely traversable - if it looks like you can get there, then you can. I noticed alot of guided pathing in AoC- alot. Then again, VG's world is one of the reasons it was unplayable :)
There are kinks but so far nothing major.
I am still not completely sold on the combat - it is cool, very directional in nature, reactional (shield on right -> slash left), and combo dependent with fatalities and all. The casters have the spellweaving mechanic which is cool. In all it is more like a hack and slash dungeon crawl game applied to an MMO.
The only thing I don't like about the 13 cap is all the solo story driven instancing will not be what determines this game for me. The world at large is where we will truly be playing and we will be extremely limited in our experience of it.
In the end, any game with a whorehouse called the bearded clam gets my vote!
