Hey all...
Pirates of the burning sea pre-boarding party starts today. It gives those who pre-ordered the game the ability to log on, claim your pre-order rewards and level up to 21 before the official release in a few weeks. The game is now live. I'm on the Blackbeard server and playing pirate faction. Character is Lazaretto Moonriver of course. Probably won't play much tonight since the national championship game is on but hopefully I will see some of you guys in game. Anyone going to play?

Cool hope to see you there. Honestly, I've cut way back on my gaming time and am thinking about just playing casual for a while and having fun while not feeling like I have a second full time job.

This is the exact way I feel right now. I have been playing console games mostly with a little WoW thrown in casually. Just total burn out on EQ2, and honestly I am starting to feel burn out as a whole on PC gaming.
If only they could get a mouse and keyboard for FPS/MMO on my 360, I would be set.

Unfortunately me too. I'm not really playing much except for EQ2 extremely casually, like 30 mins when I do get on.
Am I getting old?!

I'm on blackbeard as a pirate - Theodric.
What is your impression of the game so far? I will probably also try British Privateer.

I couldn't get into the game. I thought the toons were ugly and the gameplay was a little too slow for me.... and the instancing drove me freaking crazy. I'll go back to my tabula rasa which is an extremely fun game... If you haven't tried it yet, give it a go. I had my first tast of pvp last night. Me and one other groupy got pummelled. We were going against a spy 4 levels higher than us and a healer that was a lower level than us, but the spy just laid waste to us quickly. It was fast-paced and fun. You really have to use some well-thought out strategy to pvp in this game.

Hmmm, didnt give me any sort of awe inspired feeling for sure. I will say the water effects are gorgeous, but the rest leaves me un-interested.
Exploring the carribean should have been a prime aspect of gameplay and the tutorials should have brought this aspect of the game to the player immediately. After running through the tutorials I wanted to play something else as quickly as possible.

By the way, if you want to play over the weekend as a sort of "free" trial. Preorder the game to gain full access, then cancel the preorder before launch :)
I did just this after realizing I was not enjoying the game.

That's not a bad plan. I'm stuck at level 8 atm with no real desire to keep going.

Almost 10 now and it's the first day of the real release. The servers all say "light" as to load on each faction and have most of the night. Is that light server load a bad sign for subscriptions? I'll be watching over the next few days. If it stays light, it can't bode well for the game. That being said, it is an interesting change of pace. Anyone going to play it since its on station pass? If so, come to Blackbeard and Pirate faction and look me up. Lazaretto Moonriver in game.

http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/pirates-of-the-burning-sea/847037p1.htmlInteresting take on PotBS out of the box. Same issues I had, UI was a mess and the tutorials SUCK. If there is a great wonderful world out there to find I am just not currently in the state of mind to put in the time to find it. Poor UI in combo with bad tutorials unfortunately will cost them many players - I was lost and found it to be nothing but chaos and I am an old-school MMO vet - not good. Theo

Am I getting old?! Nah I think its a phase. I too not long ago seem to have gotten burned out on pc games then played Xbox 360 to death. Even quit playing games all together for a while. I just got back into PC games just 4 months ago and I am totaly into it again. I think taking a break is a very good thing. Back on topic...I am not sure I like PotBS just yet. It reminds me of EvE. I did not like eve at first but once I got into a pvp corp I really started to love it. I will most likely give PotBS another try soon. I just did not feel it was very deep. Another thing the avatar animations really stink!

I bought it 2 days ago. I think it has potential. I like all the ways you can outfit/upgrade your ship (even if I haven't actually bought any upgrades for mine). I don't like that once you pick a nation on a server no other new character on that server can be a pirate. I agree that the many instanced quests takes away from the 'living in the world' feel. The sea battles did seem a bit slow but I think that is just because of being low level and not having a better ship with bigger guns. Anyway, I'm on Blackbeard server. My name is Buc Caneer (get it?) and I'm a British Privateer. Look me up.
